Some comments from RC Parents

PW: I put two into college. I can tell you that homeschool transcript means very little to the admissions office. Enjoy the freedom of Robinson, but make sure they have solid SAT or ACT scores. As far as the college is concerned, an over-emphasis on a transcript that checks all the perfunctory boxes is not indicative of how successful they will be in college. Good test scores and a few dual credit hours will go much further. Of course, Robinson has outstanding preparation materials.

S.A.: When my dad made my transcript when I was applying for college it was literally something like Math – A, Reading – A, Writing – A, etc. And they didn’t have any problem with it. Texas doesn’t have any requirements for home schoolers besides that they need to be taught certain subjects but it’s totally up to the parent how. No reporting needed. I took the GED to make paperwork easier. Except for college, I never needed to turn in transcripts. I probably didn’t need one for college either looking back, that transcript was for when I was taking dual credit classes I think. Anyway, the main point is that you don’t need to follow the public schools if you don’t have requirements saying you need to. Except for college credits they might have obtained in high school, they just want the grades. They are looking to see if the student is a good student or not. They normally care far more about the ACT and SAT scores than the transcript from my experiences. When in doubt though, ask a college directly. They know what information they want and I’m sure they’d rather you ask than guess. I’d suggest calling the admissions department of the college of your choice and including the information they deem pertinent then use that as your official transcript. Or your child could do what my dad so wisely suggested for me and take the GED. I didn’t know at the time how much easier it would make paperwork. Three little letters instead of what school and year and transcripts and whatnot. Transcripts are not just for college. Some jobs care about it too. And they can look up my GED scores through the state records so I don’t have to keep up with a transcript except my college transcript. It surprises me how often my husband who went to public school needs his transcript from high school.
